| Disclaimer: Due to weird stalker things that happened with a friend recently, I'm not giving out the company name. |
With nothing but dead-end interviews for
about three months, I finally hit the jackpot.
I literally had someone call me, set up an interview, and within a day I had the
job. It was a shotgun hiring process. This place definitely has
their shit together when it comes to the latest and greatest equipment except
for the Windows 95 machines we were burdened with, while everybody else in the company has 2000 or XP.
It's taken forever, but we finally have XP machines in the Data Center...(now if
only ProComm Plus was compatible with XP!!) Anyway, the company runs multiple
AS/400
LPAR'd
systems, multiple UNIX machines, and multiple NT Servers. I get
to work with the System Engineers and Database Administrators on occasion, and I've acquired more knowledge
here than I ever anticipated. I work three nights a week with a rotating Sunday
every few weeks. There's plenty of opportunity for overtime, and my nights
off allow me to attend school. I've been with the company over four
years, and will probably be there another four years. What does the
company do? Something involving giving healthcare to dying people.
Shit, I don't know. They have computers and that's what I care about.
